There is also a lot of misinformation out there about window film and tinting so we like to set the record straight from time to time.  In our experience, one of the main barriers commercial spaces have about installing window film is they believe it will be too dark or reflective.  Of course, unless you request this–the truth is they are not. To get an idea of why a window films performance is not linked to its shade or reflectivity– read more about how these films work below.

How Window Film Works Without Being Dark

Window film is often associated in people’s minds with curtains.  Meaning, lighter curtains let in more light, while darker curtains “black” light out.  This is a poor comparison because window film works on much more advanced technology. Read on to find out more about the two main leading window film mechanisms and how it could benefit your Boston office space.

  1. Ceramic Window Film:  Many window films are now made from ceramics. The higher-end ones especially.  These ceramic films absorb 99.9% of invisible UV rays but, at the same time, allow in nearly all visible light.  This means your office windows are almost fully transparent with no sign of shading what-so-ever. These films are referred to as spectrally selective in some instances–meaning they are engineered to sort through specific sun rays for optimal clarity and function.
  2. Reflective Window Tint:  True to their names, this type of window film reflects the sun’s UV rays and heat away from the window.  This reduces solar heat gain and glare in Boston offices. Today’s reflective window films can be very clear or very dark or low-reflectivity to fully mirrored depending on your preference.  The opacity level is up to you and what works best in your office building. You don’t need a darkly tinted window film for it to be effective because even transparent, low-reflectivity films are still highly effective.

Today, window films and tints are more advanced than ever and something that any home or business can have applied without any loss of clarity. The days of darkened or overly reflective windows are gone.
